Our first reading this weekend, Brothers and Sisters, is a beautiful passage from the Prophet Isaiah. There, he tells us that God’s love for us is like a nurturing and caring Mother; God is overabundant and generous with God’s bounty and blessings. God will provide all that we need! We are held in God’s warm embrace; it is there that we will experience God’s comforting love and care, it is there that we will be blessed with all we need and more. As the Prophet himself said, “When you see this, your heart shall rejoice and your bodies flourish like the grass; the Lord’s power shall be known to God’s servants.” Likewise, in Paul’s letter to the Galatians, Saint Paul, in a very personal witness, centers his faith in the Cross of Christ. There is nothing in creation that can disturb him, and us too if we are centered on the Cross of Christ, because through the Cross we have become a new creation. We were marked by the Cross at Baptism, sealed by it to God’s great love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord. The Cross, the sign of Hope, in this Jubilee Year of Hope, becomes, then, the source for our Mission, given us by Christ, as we see in today’s Gospel from Luke, to bring that very Hope and Faith to all we meet, bringing Christ’s healing Mercy which frees all who turn to Him from the bonds of sin and oppression to experience the overwhelming maternal Love of God in their lives.
Nuestra primera lectura de este fin de semana, hermanos y hermanas es un hermoso pasaje del profeta Isaías. Allí nos dice que el amor de Dios por nosotros es como el de una Madre protectora y cariñosa; Dios es sobreabundante y generoso con sus dones y bendiciones. ¡Dios proveerá todo lo que necesitamos! Somos sostenidos por el cálido abrazo de Dios; es allí donde experimentaremos el amor y el cuidado reconfortantes de Dios, es allí donde seremos bendecidos con todo lo que necesitamos y más. Como dijo el Profeta, “Al ver esto se alegrará su corazón y sus huesos florecerán como un prado. Y los siervos del Señor conocerán su poder.” Asimismo, en la carta de Pablo a los Gálatas, san Pablo, en un testimonio muy personal, centra su fe en la Cruz de Cristo. No hay nada en la creación que pueda perturbarlo a él, y a nosotros también, si estamos centrados en la Cruz de Cristo, porque por la Cruz nos hemos convertido en una nueva creación. Fuimos marcados por la Cruz en el Bautismo, sellados por ella al gran amor de Dios por nosotros en Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor. La Cruz, signo de la Esperanza, en este Año Jubilar de la Esperanza, se convierte, pues, en la fuente de nuestra Misión, dada por Cristo, como vemos en el Evangelio de hoy de san Lucas, para llevar esa misma Esperanza y Fe a todos los que conocemos, trayendo la Misericordia sanadora de Cristo que libera a todos los que se dirigen a Él de los lazos del pecado y la opresión para experimentar el abrumador Amor maternal de Dios en sus vidas.
