My sisters and brothers in Christ. May the peace of the Lord be with you. The prophet Malachi lived about 470 years before Christ. Many Jews at the time of the prophet were apathetic about their religious duties and about keeping the Commandments. The prophet Malachi is warning the people that the day of reward and punishment is coming.
The Gospel today recounts the words of Jesus – “All that you see here…the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.” Jesus is painting a picture foretelling the end of the world in terms of the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem and warns His followers to be prepared for tension, conflict, and a difficult struggle ahead.
We do not know when the end will come. Our state of readiness to meet the Lord depends on the type of life we live. How we appear before God when Christ comes will depend on whether we are messengers of hope and bearers of light in troubled times. We know that the Lord is in control and will not abandon us. Mis hermanas y hermanos en Cristo. Que la paz del Señor este con ustedes. El profeta Malaquías vivió casi 470 años antes de Cristo. Durante el tiempo del profeta, muchos judíos eran apáticos acerca de los deberes religiosos y de seguir los Mandamientos. El profeta Malaquías le avisa al pueblo que el día de la recompensa y del castigo se acerca.
Hoy el Evangelio recuenta las palabras de Jesús – “Días vendrán en que no quedará piedra sobre piedra de todo esto que están admirando; todo será destruido”. Jesús está pintando un cuadro que predice el fin del mundo en términos de la destrucción del Templo de Jerusalén y les advierte a sus seguidores que se preparen para la tensión, el conflicto y la difícil lucha que les espera.
No sabemos cuándo llegará el fin. Nuestro estado de preparación para conocer al Señor depende de la clase de vida que vivimos. Como nos veremos ante Dios cuando Cristo venga dependerá si, durante tiempos difíciles, somos mensajeros de esperanza y portadores de luz. Sabemos que el Señor está en control y no nos abandona. Dios les bendiga.
